FEEDING TUBE

Tube feeding is a therapy where a feeding tube supplies nutrients to people who cannot get enough nutrion through eang. A flexible tube is inserted through the nose or belly area to provide nutrients by delivering liquid nutrion directly into the stomach or small intesne. The risks of home tube feeding are small, but complicaons can occur.
These complicaons may include:

• Clogged, damaged or displaced tube
• Infecon at the tube inseron site
• Gastrointesnal problems including conspaon, nausea and diarrheal
• Leaking of stomach contents at the tube site
• Pain at the tube site

Feeding tube of size 4Fr, 5Fr, 6Fr and 7Fr are 40 cm long; feeding tubes of French size 8Fr, 10Fr and 12Fr are 50 cm long. The proximal end of the feeding tube features a female flexible mount with cap to seal the tube when it is not being used (all sizes except 12Fr feeding tube). The proximal end of the 12Fr feeding tube is a funnel connector without cap. The female flexible mount with cap is colour-coded according to the diameter of the tube.
